- A NiCd battery generally performs well in
devices where you would normally only replace the battery when it has become exhausted.
For example, your TV controls will either work if the battery is good or not
work if the battery needs replacing. The point here is that you would never
put new batteries in your TV controls until the existing batteries were
flat. Any device that fits this example would be very happy with NiCd
batteries. Other popular uses are for torches and clocks.

- You would not use NiCd batteries in
devices that you would always want to be on full power before being used
such as a digital camera. If you always
want to be able to 'top up' your batteries and be fully charged before the next days use
you would always go for NiMH rechargeable batteries. If you top
up NiCd batteries when they have not been fully discharged you introduce 'memory
effect'
